Description

A delightful and stress-free holiday side dish that brings comfort to your table without cluttering the stovetop. This slow-cooked version of a classic favorite features tender green beans in a rich, velvety mushroom sauce infused with savory Cajun spices. With a perfect textural contrast from crispy fried onions and a hint of cheddar cheese, this reliable dish is ideal for busy hosts wanting to serve a soulful, crowd-pleasing meal with ease.

Ingredients

Scale

8 cans (15oz each) green beans, thoroughly drained
2 cans (10oz each) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon alcohol-free Worcestershire sauce
1/2 yellow onion, finely diced or grated
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, freshly grated
1 cup crispy fried onions

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, evaporated milk, Worcestershire sauce, diced onion, black pepper, and Cajun seasoning. Whisk until smooth.
Add the drained green beans to the mixture and stir well to coat every bean evenly.
Transfer the mixture into a 6-quart slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or on high for 1.5 to 2 hours until hot and bubbly.
Stir in the freshly grated cheddar cheese during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
Just before serving, sprinkle the crispy fried onions over the top and cover for 5 minutes to let them warm through.

Notes

Ensure your Worcestershire sauce is specifically labeled as alcohol-free or vinegar-based without wine. If the mixture looks too thick before cooking, you can add an extra splash of evaporated milk.
